Very logical theories of human origins

We’re riding home.  She’s sitting on the cross-bar on my bicycle, holding the handlebars.

Out of the blue she says “Daddy, you know what?”  She often says that when she wants to broach a new topic. “Sylvia came from Lily’s mummy’s tummy!”

“Yes,” I say.  “That means they are sisters.”

“Whose tummy did you come from?”

“From Granny Helen’s.”

“No you didn’t” she says confidently.

Huh?

She continues. “Only girls come from girls’ tummies. Granny Helen is a girl.”

“Where do boys come from, then?”

“Boys come from boy’s tummies!”

OK… We ride on for a while.

Then she says “Two babies from the same tummy – that’s funny!”

I say “If two babies come from the same tummy at the same time, they’re called twins.”

“Twins!… what if three babies come from the same tummy?”

“Three babies from the same tummy at the same time are called triplets.”

“Triplets!… how about… twins-three?”

“Well, you could say that.”

“What if four babies come from the same tummy?”

“Four babies from the same tummy at the same time are called quadruplets.”

“Quadruuuplets!! That’s funny!…. how about… twins-four?”

And so on…

A little while later we ride by some foreign students conversing among themselves.

“Daddy, you know what?  Those people were talking Chinese.”

“Really?”

“Yes.  I can talk Chinese.  But you can’t talk Chinese can you.”
