You don’t say that!

We were riding back from “school” and took our usual detour through the scary man tunnel into the whale’s belly (the underground car park).   Unfortunately it was full of smelly fumes.

“Cho cho!” I said.  This is Mandarin for “smelly”.  I don’t know much Mandarin, but this is one thing I had picked up from Lillian.

“You don’t say that!”  Lillian insists.

“Why not?”

“Lala (Teresa’s mother) says that.  Mummy says that.  I say that.  You don’t say that!”

So Lillian knows who speaks Mandarin and who shouldn’t bother trying.
